Directions: At intersection of FM 2004 and Highway 288 in Lake Jackson, turn right on FM 2004 and follow for 7 miles. At the intersection of Highway 36 and FM 2611, take FM 2611 S 4 miles to FM 2918. Turn left on 2918 and drive 1 mile to CR 306. Turn right and go 1 mile to San Bernard Headquarters.

Primary Wildlife: The Refuge was established in 1968, to provide quality habitat for wintering migratory waterfowl and other bird life.

Habitat: The Refuge consists of nearly 28,000 acres of coastal prairies, salt and mud flats, saltwater and freshwater ponds, one stream, and a small grove of trees.

Recreation and Education: Bird watching and photography on auto tour route and foot trails. Fishing permitted, as well as waterfowl hunting, in season.

Special Note: Attracts up to 30,000 snow geese and 25,000 ducks annually. Spectacular variety of migratory birds during spring and fall. Greatest concentrations occur during April and May .
