McFaddin and Texas Point National Wildlife Refuges

Directions: The Refuges are located along Highway 87 approximately 15 miles S of Port Arthur
and 90 miles E of Houston. Texas Point NWR is adjacent to Sabine Pass, while McFaddin NWR lies 12
miles further to the W. Field Headquarters is located at McFaddin NWR along Clam Lake Road.
Primary Wildlife: Wintering and migrating waterfowl, alligators, coastal marsh animals and
nursery area for the Gulf of Mexico's fin and shell fish.
Habitat: 50,634 acres of coastal marsh.
Recreation and Education: Wildlife observation, photography, waterfowl hunting, fishing, and
crabbing
Special Note: McFaddin NWR habitat supports one of the largest populations of alligators in
Texas.
