Lake Isom NWR is located 3 miles south of Reelfoot Lake. Its wildlife resources and management are similar to that of Reelfoot NWR. The refuge waters are open to the public from March 15 through October 15 for fishing and wildlife observation. The land portion of the refuge is open March 15 through November 15. Hunting is permitted within specific seasons. A public boat landing is available for lake access and refuge roads provide access to upland portions of the refuge.

Recreational opportunities in this area include: motorized watercraft, hunting, fishing.

Visitor Contact Station is Reelfoot NWR. Information about Lake Isom can be obtained at the Reelfoot headquarters.

Management Programs

Croplands are managed to provide "hot" waterfowl foods. Nearly 75 acres of moist soil areas provide natural waterfowl foods. Bottomland hardwood forests are managed as green tree reservoirs. Waterfowl surveys are conducted biweekly in conjunction to those for Reelfoot NWR. Approximately 36 wood duck nesting structures are maintained and monitored throughout the year.
