Oklahoma Bat Caves National Wildlife Refuge
(satellite of Sequoyah NWR) Route 1, Box l8-A Vian, OK 74962 (918)773-5251 or (918) 773-5252
Directions: From I-40 in Vian, exit on county road (first two miles are paved: last mile is gravel)
and drive S three miles.
Primary Wildlife: Ozark big-eared bat and gray bat (both endangered); various other cave
species.
Habitat: Karst habitat, exterior of which is oak-hickory forest.
Recreation and Education: The endangered status of wildlife species and the delicate (and
hazardous) nature of the habitat precludes any recreational use. Approved studies can be done under
proper supervision.
Special Note: Refuge consists of several units scattered through several counties of northeast
Oklahoma. Refuge is still growing as new caves are located and acquired.
