Dexter National Fish Hatchery and Technology Center

Directions: 1 mile E of Dexter, New Mexico, on State Road 190.
Primary Function: A refugium, production hatchery, and research facility for endangered
Southwestern fishes.
Recreation and Education: Approximately 400 additional acres of public land is open for small
game hunting (ducks, cranes, doves, quail, pheasants, and rabbits). Excellent birdwatching opportunities.
Visitor Center open to public from April 1 to October 31.
Special Note: No other place in the world has such a concentration of rare and endangered fishes
at a single locality nor responsibility to maintain and develop culture techniques for such an array of
unique native fish species.
