Directions: Located 18 miles S of the Canadian border in the Kootenai Valley. From Bonners Ferry, go W on the dike road along the S bank of the Kootenai River for 5 miles to the refuge. Continue another 1-1/2 miles to refuge headquarters. Watch for logging trucks.

Primary Wildlife: Numerous species of ducks use the refuge during breeding and migration periods. Mallards are the main nesting species, while mallards, wigeon, and pintails are the principal migrants. Canada geese may number 2,500 in the fall. Tundra swans are common spring migrants. Large mammals using the refuge include both white-tailed and mule deer, coyote; and, rarely, black bear, elk, or moose.

Habitat: 2,775 acres of ponds, grasslands, cultivated croplands, shrubs, and a timbered western edge.

Recreation and Education: Wildlife observation, study, and photography. Environmental education. Auto tour road and walking trails. Hunting for deer, bear, upland game, and waterfowl. Fishing.
