Directions: Located 1 mile N of Kilauea on a paved road. Headquarters and parking area on Kilauea Point. Refuge open 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. daily, except Federal holidays. A single visit permit is required for entrance. The entry fee is a maximum of $2.00 per family.

Primary Wildlife: Red-footed boobies nest in trees. Shearwaters nest in burrows in the soft soil of Kilauea Point overlooking the ocean. Great frigatebirds, brown boobies, red-tailed and white-tailed tropicbirds, and Laysan albatrosses can be seen from the point. Green sea turtles, humpback whales, and dolphins can be seen in the water off the point.

Habitat: 31 acres of cliffs and headlands jutting up to 200 feet above the surf. Grounds have been landscaped using an array of native coastal plant species.

Recreation and Education: Wildlife observation, study, and photography. -- A sales outlet operated by the Kilauea Point Natural History Association offers a variety of books, publications, and maps featuring Hawaii's unique natural history.

Binoculars and spotting scopes are available for public use at the visitor center. Volunteers are available to interpret wildlife activities. Guided walks up Crater Hill are periodically available. Contact refuge manager for more details.

Special Note: The historic Kilauea Lighthouse is located on the refuge.
