Allegheny Locks & Dams 2-9
These structures provide navigation pools on the Allegheny River from Pittsburgh to near New Bethlehem, PA. From Pittsburgh, follow PA 28 N to observe commercial river traffic and the locks and dams which make navigation possible.
Aylesworth Lake
A four-acre lake featuring a beach, picnic area and hiking trails. Located near East Jermyn, in Lackawanna County, about 10 miles upstream from Scranton on US 6.
Alvin R. Bush Dam
Surrounded by high mountains in a wild, scenic area, Kettle Creek State Park provides the recreational facilities at this project. From Renovo, 5 miles W on PA 120 to Westport, 8 miles N on unmarked state road.
Beltzville Lake
Fossils of early marine life are found in outcroppings in the project area. From Allentown, N on PA Turnpike NE Extension to Exit 34. Cross PA 209 and take Township Route 444 to Project.
Blue Marsh Lake
Located near historic Gruber Wagon Works and Union Canal. From Reading, approximately 5 miles NW on PA 183 to Bern Church, then left following project signs to the lake.
Conemaugh River Lake
Traces of the Pennsylvania Canal can be seen on project land near Blairsville. Good hunting for deer and small game. Follow signs 7 miles E from Saltsburg.
Cowanesque Lake
This project provides a 1,085-acre lake with 17 miles of shoreline. Located at Lawrenceville, near New York border, between County Route 58052 and PA 49, accessible from US 15.
Crooked Creek Lake
A wide variety of recreational facilities can be found at the Corps-operated lake, including a large beach. There is good hunting in the area. From Kittanning, 7 miles S on PA 66.
Curwensville Lake
Day-use and overnight facilities are provided at this central Pennsylvania lake. From Clearfield, W on PA 879 to Curwensville, 4 miles S on PA 453.
Dashields Lock & Dam
Situated near several large heavy industries, this Ohio River navigation project provides them a dependable waterway. Located at Glenwillard.
East Branch Clarion River Lake
Elk State Park is located at this lake in scenic western Pennsylvania, 9 miles NE of Johnsonburg.
Emsworth Lock & Dam
Furthest upstream of the Ohio River dams, Emsworth provides Pittsburgh with a waterway for commerce and recreation. Located off PA 65, 5 miles from central Pittsburgh .
Foster Joseph Sayers Dam
Bald Eagle State Park provides a marina, campground, picnic areas, and beach at this 1,730-acre lake. A historical village is under restoration. From I-80, exit 23, 10 miles N on PA 150.
Francis E. Walter Dam
The watershed above the dam has been glaciated, resulting in scoured summits and valley walls and a number of ponds and swamps. From Scranton, S on PA Turnpike NE Extension to Exit 35, E on PA 940.
Kinzua Dam (Allegheny Reservoir)
The Allegheny National Forest and the Seneca Nation of Indians are highlights of this lake. From Warren, 9 miles E on PA 59.
Loyalhanna Lake
Set in an area of rugged, unspoiled scenery. From Saltsburg, 3/4 of a mile S on PA 981.
Mahoning Creek Lake
Another lake set in the rugged hills of western Pennsylvania. Hiking, hunting, and fishing are among its attractions. Follow project signs south from New Bethlehem.
Maxwell Lock & Dam
This dam provides a 24-mile pool, ideal for recreational boating, and receives more recreational use than any other on the Monongahela. Located 8 miles S of Brownsville.
Monongahela River Locks & Dams 2-8 (Pt. Marion)
These structures provide a navigation channel for commercial and recreation traffic on the Monongahela River from Pittsburgh to the Opekiska Lock & Dam and Morgantown, WV. From Pittsburgh, follow PA 837 S to observe life on the "Mon" River.
Montgomery Lock & Dam
This is an integral link in providing a navigation channel for the many industries located in the Ohio River Basin. Located off PA 18, 7 miles from Monaca.
Prompton Lake
The passage of glaciers in the vicinity has left numerous depressions in which small lakes and swamps have developed. From Scranton, E on US 6 through Honesdale, N on PA 170 to project.
Raystown Lake
Here you will find boating, fishing, camping, hiking, swimming, and scenic beauty. This twisting lake, the largest entirely within Pennsylvania, extends 27 miles and covers 8,300 acres. Park Headquarters is 2 miles E of PA 26 at Hesston.
Shenango River Lake
The area features eight archeological sites and four historical areas. Follow project signs north from Sharpsville.
Tioga-Hammond Lakes
Twin lakes in north central Pennsylvania provide overnight and day use facilities in a scenic environment near the Borough of Tioga, at the intersection of PA 287 and US 15.
Tionesta Lake
Located in the high hills of the Allegheny Mountains. From Tionesta, 1.5 miles S on PA 36
Union City Dam
This is a dry-bed detention reservoir for flood control. It is located 3 miles W of Union City.
Woodcock Creek Lake
Provides a 333-acre summer pool with the largest recreation facility managed by Crawford County. Located N of Meadville, off PA 86.
Youghiogheny River Lake
Releases from the dam allow some of the best white water canoeing in the East. Visit spectacular Ohiopyle Falls. From Confluence, 1.5 miles S on PA 281.
