Big Stone Lake
Fishing, hunting, hiking, cross-country skiing, and nature watching are only some of the activities taking place in this 10,700-acre wildlife refuge. From Ortonville, 8 miles SE on MN 1 mile S on US 75.
Crosslake (Pine River Lake)
Located in the heart of Crow Wing State Forest, at the headwaters of the Whitefish Chain Lakes. From Brainerd, E on US 210, 8 miles N on MN 25, right on County Road 3, 18 miles N to Crosslake.
Lake Superior Maritime Visitor Center (Duluth, Minnesota) Located at the mouth of Duluth-Superior Harbor, the Canal Park area provides the best location for viewing all ship traffic at the harbor. Artifacts, models and reconstructions of ships' quarters tell the story of commercial navigation on the Great Lakes. Admission is free. Programs available by appointment. From downtown Duluth, Superior St. (US 61) to Lake Ave., E 3 blocks to Canal Park. Call (218) 727-2497 for hours and group reservations.
Gull Lake
Five other lakes are accessible by boat. From Brainerd, 7 miles N on US 371, 2 miles W on County 125,1.5 miles W on County 105.
Lac Qui Parle
In a rich agricultural area, the nearby Mission Park Historical Site contains replicas of early Indian life. From Montevideo, 9 miles NW on MN 7 and 59.
Leech Lake
This is the largest resort lake in northern Minnesota. From Grand Rapids, 43 miles W on US 2 and 8.
Orwell Lake
Much of the project area is used for wildlife habitat development by Minnesota Department of Natural Resources. Many lakes in vicinity. From Fergus Falls, 10 miles SW via County Route 15.
Pokegama Lake
Features nature trail, scenic drives, and an abundance of wildlife. Nearby mining and paper mill tours are available. From Grand Rapids, 2 miles W on US 2.
Big Sandy Lake
This was the site of a trading post in the early 1800's. Grave stones mark an Indian burial mound. From McGregor, 13 miles N on MN 65.
Lake Traverse
The area was once the bed of ancient glacial Lake Agassiz. From Wheaton, 4 miles N on US 75, 4 miles W on MN 236.
Winnibigoshish Lake
Indian burial grounds are found in the area. From Deer River, 1 mile W on US 2,12 miles NW on US 46, 2 miles E on County 9.
