U.S. Army Corps of Engineers - California Projects
Bay Model Visitor Center
This model simulates San Francisco Bay conditions such as tidal action, sediment disposition, and fresh/salt water interaction. The visitor center, built inside the model, is designed to enhance the public's appreciation of the Bay as an important natural resource. Corps rangers guide visitors around the model, explaining how engineers and scientists conduct laboratory tests to seek solutions to the problems of maintaining the bay's water environment. From Golden Gate Bridge, N 3 miles on US 101 to Sausalito exit, then to 2100 Bridgeway Blvd.
Black Butte Lake
Situated at the northern end of the Central Valley, one hour south of Red Bluff. This quiet park, surrounded by beautiful, dark volcanic buttes, is well known for outstanding fishing and sailing. From Orland, 10 miles W via Newville Road.
Brea Dam
Golf and tennis are main attractions at this project, located among the picturesque rolling hills in the City of Fullerton. No permanent pool. 5 miles N of I-5 on Harbor Blvd.
Carbon Canyon Dam
No permanent pool, but varied facilities accommodate model boats, fishing, picnic area and tennis. Located on Carbon Canyon Road, N of Imperial Highway off CA 57.
Eastman Lake
Just one hour north of Fresno in the Sierra Nevada foothills. Rolling oak-covered hills provide a scenic and restful setting for fishing, boating, and hiking. Located 25 miles E of Chowchilla at the N end of County Road 29.
Englebright Lake
Only one hour north of Sacramento on the historic Yuba River. A grand and rugged canyon hides many small and inviting boat-access campsites. From Marysville, 20 miles E on CA 20.
Fullerton Dam
FaciIities accom modate fishing, picnics, hardcourt ball games and field sports. No permanent pool. Off CA 57 S of Imperial Hwy. On State College Rd. in Fullerton.
Hansen Dam
Extensive day-use facilities, including golf and riding stables, are available at this site in the San Fernando Valley. I-210 at Osborne St.
Hensley Lake
Less than an hour drive north of Fresno in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada. As a gateway to Yosemite National Park and an excellent waterskiing and fishing lake, this park is always popular with visitors. Located 17 miles NE of Madera on County Road 400.
Lake Kaweah
One hour SE of Fresno in the rugged foothills of the Sierra Nevada. High mountains provide an exciting background for fishing and boating at this popular park, located on the main southern route into Sequoia-Kings Canyon National Park. From Visalia, 20 miles E on CA 198.
Martis Creek Lake
Less than one hour west of Reno near worldfamous Lake Tahoe, the Martis Creek area features exciting trout fishing in the lake and surrounding streams. From Truckee, 5 miles SE on CA 267.
Lake Mendocino
Two hours north of San Francisco near the world-renowned Redwood Country, this beautiful park is popular with local residents as well as visitors exploring the Northern California coast. Fishing, hiking, and boating are all available. From Ukiah, 3 miles N on US 101, then E on Lake Mendocino Dr.
Mojave River Dam
In the high desert wilderness at the foot of the San Bernardino Mountains. No permanent pool, but camping and equestrian facilities are available. Near Hesperia, 15 miles E of I-15 via CA 138 and 173.
New Hogan Lake
About an hour east of Stockton near historic gold rush towns of the California Mother Lode. This scenic setting in the Sierra Nevada foothills boasts exciting fishing, waterskiing, and hiking. From Stockton, 35 miles E via CA 26.
Pine Flat Lake
Less than an hour east of Fresno in the Sierra and Sequoia National Forests. The scenic and rugged Kings River Canyon is the location of this beautiful park where fishing, boating, and waterskiing are all available. E of Fresno 32 miles via CA 180.
Prado Dam
An oasis within one of the fastest growing areas of Southern California, the Prado Basin is home to the Olympic Shooting Facilities and Corona Airport (for small aircraft). Located in the Chino-Corona area near CA 71, 83 and 91.
Santa Fe Dam
Swimming, fishing, non-power boating, hiking and picnicking are available. Of interest are the five distinct biological communities within the area. They represent the last vestige of a complex plant life system that was important to the Indians and early settlers. I-210 at I-605 in the City of Irwindale.
Sepulveda Dam
No permanent pool, but sports facilities, including golf and tennis, draw many to this urban project in the San Fernando Valley area of Los Angeles. NW of US 101 and I-405.
Lake Sonoma
In the wine-growing region of Sonoma County. A picturesque lake with secluded vehicle and boat-in camping available for the fishing and boating enthusiast. From Healdsburg, 10 miles NW on Dry Creek Road.
Stanislaus River Parks
Just a few minutes NE of Modesto in the Central Valley. Here, a serene series of small parks are located along the Stanislaus River, providing exciting fishing, rafting, and canoeing opportunities. N of Modesto 10 miles via CA 99.
Success Lake
At the southern end of the Central Valley, this scenic setting with the Sierra Nevada in the background provides great fishing and boating pleasure for the visitor. From Porterville, 5 miles E on CA 190.
Whittier Narrows Dam
No permanent pool located in a highly developed industrial, agricultural, and residential area of Los Angeles County's San Gabriel Valley. Golfing and riding stables are among the attractions at this project. On Pomona Freeway (CA 60) at Rosemead Blvd. (CA 19).
