History
Sagamore Hill was built by Theodore Roosevelt during 1884 and 1885 and remained his permanent home the rest of his life. After its completion, the young Roosevelt moved in with his sister, Anna, and his daughter, Alice. His first wife, Alice Lee, had died only hours after their daughter was born. In December 1886 Roosevelt married Edith Kermit Carow, a childhood friend. The following spring they arrived at Sagamore Hill, and here, except for absences inposed by his public career, the Roosevelts spent the rest of their lives. Here to the "Summer White House" came national and international figures from every walk of life. Here Roosevelt died at the age of 60: and here Edith Roosevelt lived until her death in 1948 at the age of 87.

Visitor Activities
The site encompasses 83.02 acres. Access to the Theodore Roosevelt home is only through guided tours. The Home is a 23 room Queen Anne Style structure. 93% of the furnishings are original to the home. Admission to the tour is $2. Children 16 years of age and under are admitted free.
The Old Orchard Museum was built in 1938 as the home of Gen.T.Roosevelt jr, son of the President. It includes exhibits relating to Roosevelt's political career, family life, and the lives of his six children. Films are presented on a regular schedule.
Nature Walks are provided when weather and available personnel permit.
There is free parking, a snack shop during summer, and souvenir and book shop through out the year.

Location
Sagamore Hill is locate at the end of Cove Neck Road, Oyster Bay, Long Island, NY., and can be reached by Long Island Railroad. Taxis meet all trains. By car is via the Long Island Expressway to exit 41N, Route 106 north to Oyster Bay and follow the signs.

Hours
The site is open daily from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. except Thanksgiving, Christmas day, and New Years. Hours can vary during the winter season. Information available (516) 922-4447.
