Gallo Campground, located one mile east of the visitor center, is open all year. The 68 sites are available on a first-come, first-served basis. From April to October the campground frequently fills by 3:00 p.m. Campsites are very close together, please show respect and consideration to your camping neighbors by following the posted regulations. Each site has a picnic table and fire grate. Bring your own firewood or charcoal for gathering wood in Chaco is prohibited. Most sites include a tent pad, and tents must be placed on pads when they are available. There is a limit of two cars and five people per site, and no more than two tents per site. The cost is $10.00 per site, per night. Golden Age and Golden Access cardholders pay $5.00 per site, per night.

Group camping facilities are available for groups of 10 or more people. The maximum capacity of the group campground is 60 people. Group campground reservations must be made in advance by calling the park at (505) 786-7014. The cost for group camping is $4.00 per person, per night with a minimum fee of $40.00. Upon arrival at the park, please stop at the Visitor Center before setting up camp. The visitor center is open daily from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Memorial Day through Labor Day, and throughout the rest of the year 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Use of the group campground by any group is not exclusive. One or more groups can be accommodated in the area, up to a maximum capacity of 60+ campers. When you arrive, your group will be assigned to a section of the group area. The area in the group campground will be reserved for your group until 5:00 p.m. on the date of your time planned arrival. Please call the park if you cannot arrive by that time or if you need to change or cancel your reservations. Unless you notify the park ahead of time, your reserved sites will be opened to other campers after 5:00 p.m.

Chaco Culture National Historical Park has no accommodations or services. There is no gasoline, auto repairs, or food available in the park. To make the most of your visit, please plan ahead and come prepared. To the northeast, the nearest services and amenities are located on State Highway 44 at the Thriftway convenience store, and at the Blanco and Nageezi Trading posts. Drinking water is available 24 hours a day in the visitor center parking area. The campground has water (non-potable) and restrooms with flush toilets. There are no showers. Pay telephones are located outside the Visitor Center.

All roads leading into the park are dirt. During extremely inclement weather they can be impassable and when wet, they are slippery. Traveling from the north, the route into the park is CR7900 off of New Mexico Highway 44. From the south, access is via New Mexico 57. Both routes are clearly signed and are generally maintained. We do not recommend traveling north on New Mexico 57 from the Crownpoint or Grants area during inclement weather. Have a safe and enjoyable trip. We look forward to your arrival.
