The Park Service has several recommendations for visitors to Canyonlands:

Be prepared for the heat. Carry and drink at least 1 gallon of water a day.

Watch yourself at overlooks and cliff edges. Walk carefully on slick rock surfaces.

Stay with companions in the backcountry. If you get lost, stay put. Wandering will make it more difficult for rescuers to find you.

Help preserve Indian ruins, rock art, etc. Leave everything undisturbed.

Reservations for backpacking, backcountry vehicle campsites, day use, and river permits for Canyonlands National Park are not accepted by telephone; only fax and mail reservations. Call the park's information line at 435-719-2313, FAX 435-719-2300.
