DIRECTIONS
Headquarters Visitor Center at Pine Springs is accessed via U.S. highway 62/180 between Carlsbad, NM, and El Paso, TX. Dog Canyon, on the park's north side, is accessed via New
Mexico state road 137.
Headquarters: Elevation 5700 feet - On U.S. Highway 62/180, 55 miles southwest of Carlsbad and 110 miles east of El Paso. Open every day except Christmas: Memorial Day-Labor Day 7:00 a.m.- 6:00 p.m.; Labor Day-Memorial Day 8:00 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Information, natural history museum, introductory slide program.
McKittrick Canyon Entrance: Highway entrance gate is open 8:00 a.m.-4:30 p.m, MST; 8:00 a.m.-6:00 p.m. MDT. (Closing time changes when time changes). Outdoor exhibits and slide program. Visitor Center manned intermittently during the year.
Dog Canyon Ranger Station: Elevation 6200 feet - 110 miles from Pine Springs, 70 miles from Carlsbad. Trailhead for trails in north part of the park.
REMINDER
Facilities and services within and near Guadalupe Mountains National Park are extremely limited. Gasoline and other automotive services are not available within the area. The nearest service stations are 30 miles west or 35 miles east. Bring everything you need with you.
FEES
There is no park entrance fee. See the Camping section for details about campground use fees.
SERVICES
Services are limited in the park. Lodging, meals, commercial campgrounds with RV hook-ups, service stations, and stores are available outside the park along Highway 62-180 no closer than 35 miles. Pay phones are found at Pine Springs Campground and the Headquarters Visitor Center.
ROADS
Driving opportunities within the park are limited. Vehicle access points are located at Pine Springs, Frijole Ranch House Exhibit Center, McKittrick Canyon, and Dog Canyon. A four-wheel drive vehicle and mountain bike road to the Williams Ranch House is accessible during the day, weather permitting. Check out a gate key at the Headquarters Visitor Center.
TRANSPORTATION
Bus service to the park is available with Texas, New Mexico and Oklahoma (TNM&O;) Bus Line (806-765-6641). Make arrangements with the driver to be let off at Pine Springs, Texas. Commercial airline service and rental cars are available in Carlsbad, New Mexico (55 miles), El Paso (115 miles), and Midland-Odessa (170 miles), Texas.
FACILITIES AND SERVICES OUTSIDE THE PARK
The nearest facilities and services are located 35 miles from the park. The park is isolated. You will need to make your travel plans with this fact in mind. Have what you will need while in the park before you arrive.
Texas: Dell City, Van Horn, Pecos, El Paso and Midland-Odessa offer restaurants, gas stations, postal service, airports for private aircraft (El Paso and Midland-Odessa have commercial service), lodging and commercial campgrounds (Dell City has no lodging or commercial campground), and other services associated with communities.
New Mexico: White's City, Carlsbad and Artesia offer restaurants, gas stations, postal service, airports for private aircraft (Carlsbad has commercial service), lodging and commercial campgrounds, and other services associated with communities.
