Other Activities
Backpacking
A free backcountry use permit is required for all overnight trips in the park. Permits are issued in person and no more than 24 hours in advance. Issue of backcountry permits is limited by current visitor use or weather conditions. Check in at the Headquarters Visitor Center for a permit, safety considerations, orientation, suggested trail routes, camp sites, and current conditions.
Horse Riding
Horses are allowed for day use only on most trails. Those trails closed to horse traffic are in environmentally sensitive areas. You need to bring your own riding stock to the park as no rentals are available. Contact the park for detailed information about horse riding. Trails are steep and rocky.
Mountain Bikes
Mountain bike riding is permitted on park roads only. Mountain bikes cannot be used on the park trail system due to trail damage and hiker/rider safety issues.
