Lodgepole Village Campground
This area is Ground Zero for Sequoia's most visited attractions: the Giant Forest, General Sherman Tree, Moro Rock, and the ever-famous Tunnel Log (so named because you can drive through its trunk). Hence the need for two enormous campgrounds, each with more than 200 sites. Lodgepole's advantage is proximity to quite a few trailheads. The short hike to Tokopah Falls starts just down the road, and the scenic Lakes Trail isn't much farther. Open year-round.

Dorst Campground
The density of campers here has two ill effects: a higher than average noise level, and a higher than average bear level (they come for the food left unprotected by careless campers). If you stay here, take the bear box rules very seriously. A beautiful hike starting just down the road leads into Muir Grove. A popular trail, but a must-see if you're in the area. Open June through August.
