Around the Forest

There are several interesting places to visit on and around the Bighorn National Forest. Located on Highway 14A is the Medicine Wheel. This rock formation is believed to have been built by prehistoric tribes but the purpose has long been forgotten. The Paintrock canyon is a beautiful drive on Highway 14 descending down the mountains. The canyon is mostly red shale, this the name"Paintrock". Also on Highway 14 is shell Falls, a beautiful cascading falls and interpretive center. Tongue River Cave is located on the Forest boundary in the Tongue Canyon. One Wilderness Area, the Cloud Peak Wilderness, can also be found within the Forest boundaries.
