Black Hills National Forest
Hiking Big Hill Trails
Big Hill was named when the early prospectors, heading to the gold fields with wagons and teams of horses, could barely make it over the"Big Hill" when coming from Spearfish.
Elevation: 5,000 to 5,520 Location: Trailhead is approximately 7 miles south of Spearfish on 134 (Tinton Road).

* Trail lengths show the total around each loop, NOT the distance between the trailhead and the loops.
** Trail C.1 ends at 1.5 miles, over looking the west rim of Spearfish Canyon.
Loops A, A.1 and B primarily meander through mixed stands of quaking aspen, paper birch and ponderosa pine.
Loops C, D and trail C.1 cross extensive stands of ponderosa pine with small patches of quaking aspen and paper birch.
During the winter season the trails are groomed in cooperation with the Northern Hills Cross Country Ski Club. Please help by contributing at the donation box at the trailhead.
