Fishing

An Oregon State Fishing License is required if you plan on fishing within the National Forest. These can be purchased at any sporting goods store in the Grants Pass area. Prices for an Out-of-State License vary depending on how many days you plan on fishing and the type of fish you hope to land such as salmon, steelhead or trout. Most of the lakes on the Siskiyou National Forest are stocked with either Cutthroat, Rainbow or Brown Trout. Steelhead season runs from January to mid-March and Salmon season runs from mid-April until mid-July on the Rogue River. Popular fishing areas include Bolan Lake, the Chetco River near Brookings, the mouth of the Rogue River at Gold Beach, and the Elk and Sixes River just north of Port Orford.
