Biking

Mountain bike use in the Ochoco National Forest is increasing as people search for places to explore that are away from crowds and conflicts. The Ochoco currently has over 5,000 miles of roads. Of this system, over 3,700 miles are low-standard, two-tract roads open to motorized traffic but used very little except during hunting season. There are over 600 miles of blocked-off, closed roads that may offer routes away from four-wheel motor vehicle traffic. There are also many miles of overgrown-routes that offer future opportunities. Of the current 86 miles of system trails, 50 miles are outside of Wilderness and open to mountain bikes. The most popular trail rides are Lookout Mountain and Round Mountain. Prior to becoming Wilderness, the Mill Creek area was popular for a few riders. The Wilderness is currently receiving some illegal mountain bike use.
