Around the Forest

At the southern tip of Nevada, Las Vegas is situated some 40 miles east of a section of the Toiyabe that features the 11,918-foot Charleston Peak and the Lee Canyon Ski Area. Also nearby is Devil's Hole in Death Valley National Park. Reno and Carson City are strategically situated near Lake Tahoe and offer easy access to the Humboldt-Toiyabe. Yosemite National Park is about 100 miles south of Reno. In northern Nevada, bordering the state of Idaho, Wild Horse Crossing offers camping along the Owyhee River. Wild Horse Crossing was an important meeting and trading ground for the Western Shoshone, Paiute and Bannock tribes.

At Mono Basin in nearby Inyo National Forest, explore the otherworldly limestone spires of tufa that rise out of the mire like medieval castles surrounded by a briny sea.
