White Mountain National Forest -
Pine Mountain Trail

The Pine Mountain Trail leads from Gorham Village, New Hampshire, over the top of Pine Mountain to the Dolly Copp/Pinkham "B" Road.

The Pine Mountain Trail is blazed with yellow paint and all intersections are marked with signs and arrows. The trail begins to the left as you enter the Promenade Street Parking area. After 100 yards, the trail joins the pipeline opening and turns right. At 0.2 miles, it leaves the pipeline traveling to the left along the Bear Springs Snowmobile Trail. At approximately 0.5 miles, the trail turns right and leaves the snowmobile trail. Soon the Pine Mountain Trail bears left and begins to climb up a ridge with openings looking north. The route enters the White Mountain National Forest at 1.5 miles. The side trail on the left at about 2 miles leads to a good view of Berlin, New Hampshire. At 2.25 miles, the trail crosses a path to the left which leads to Chapel Rock and another great view.

At 2.4 miles, the trail joins the well traveled route from the Horton Center to the top of Pine Mountain. Pine Mountain's ledges just 0.25 miles beyond the summit are famous for their views. This is a good place to take a break, eat your lunch, and enjoy the scenery.

The Ledge Trail leads down to the Pine Mountain Road 0.5 miles from the summit. CAUTION! The Ledge Trail has some very steep sections. The Dolly Copp/Pinkham "B" Road is 0.9 miles to the left.

Mileage from Promenade Street, Gorham to:
• Pine Mountain - 2.7 miles
• Pine Mountain Road - 3.2 miles
• Dolly Copp Road Parking Area - 4.1 miles

Difficulty: Easy to moderately difficult.

Trail Termini: In Gorham, the Pine Mountain Trail begins at the end of Promenade Street beyond the cemetery. Park on the south side of the road where it enters an open area.

The southern end of the trail ends on the Dolly Copp Road (also known as the Pinkham "B" Road) 2.3 miles from Dolly Copp Campground. The road on your right leads to the Pine Mountain Trail in 0.9 miles. This road is closed to unauthorized vehicles, but welcomes foot travel.
