Lolo National Forest
Around the Forest

Before you even leave the forest, make sure you've checked out Lolo's four Wilderness Areas-the Rattlesnake, Welcome Creek, Scapegoat and Selway-Bitterroot. Once you do traverse its borders, however, you are bound to run into other forests. Several Idaho forests, the Clearwater and St. Joe National Forests, lie to Lolo's west. Bitterroot National Forest and Deerlodge National Forest surround the southern portion of the forest. Yet another Montana National Forest, the Kaniksu, lies on the Idaho border to the north. Lewis and Clark and Flathead National Forests all lie to the east. Flathead Indian Reservation lies between the northern eastern and western portions of the forest.

Missoula, one of Montana's biggest cities, is nestled in the middle of Lolo. Great Falls, Montana is a four and-a-half hour drive east of the forest. Located 120 miles southeast of Missoula is Butte.
