Anasazi Resources

The Anasazi are one of the great mysteries of the southwest. Believed to be the forebears of modern-day Pueblo Indians, such as the Hopi, the Anasazi culture flourished in the Four Corners on into southern Arizona and New Mexico. It was a relatively brief, but glorious, civilization. The architecture, pottery and other artefacts most closely associated with the Anasazi appeared about 700 A.D., with a "golden age" between 1000 and 1300. In 1300 they began to abandon their settlements. The arid climate of the southwest has preserved their ruins remarkably well. Sometimes you can get the feeling that they just up and left a few years ago — not 500.
