Val d'Ishre, France

The Snowboard Guide: Europe

This place has everything from good riding to big-time party action. The drive into Val d'lshre is stunning — so stunning you may crash your car. La Daille is the first part of"Val" (as it's nicknamed), but it's the cheaper alternative, the ugly sister to the main town, which is a five-minute drive away. Val's main town is the Alps answer to Aspen: expensive, luxurious, and a good laugh.

Val d'Isere, one of Europe's best-known resorts, is part of the vast Espace Killy, which is renowned for its extensive and varied terrain and is linked by lifts to Tignes. All boarders will find something to relish: huge piste and off-piste areas, a well-kept half-pipe, and some of the liveliest nightlife in the Alps.

Val d'Isère, France

Val d'Ishre can usually be assured of having snow, as most of the slopes are north-facing and at high altitude.
