Denver Kids Plains Conservation Center By Linda Collison and Bob Russell
Pronghorn antelope, badgers, coyotes, and swift foxes are some of the mammals you might see if you're lucky on a trip to this unique conservation center in Aurora. Even the unlucky will surely see black-tailed prairie dogs, thirteen-lined ground squirrels, or at least a western harvest mouse. (Did you even know there were such important-sounding rodents living in eastAurora?)Wagon rides and full-moon walks are regular events here, featuring bonfires, marshmallow roasts,and informative talks. Also fun are Haunted Prairie an outdoor Halloween party fornature lovers Pioneer Christmas, and other seasonal happenings.
Local scout troops are highly involved with the Plains Conservation Center, but many activitiesare open to the public by reservation. If you live in Denver, you might want to join this nonprofitorganization and take advantage of reduced prices for all activities and receive a newsletter ofupcoming events. It's a great way to get the family involved in conservation and have someoutdoor fun.

Activities: An opportunity to learn about the wildlife of the eastern Colorado grasslandsthrough guided tours and educational programs. Facilities: 1,900 acres of prairie on the edge of town, visitor center, restrooms. Be sure to bring: Sun protection for daytime activities, an extra sweater for moonlightwalks.
