This hitch is suited to tying a rope to a post or grommet. It can be used to tie gear to the top of your car, or for tying a guyline to your tent. When tying the other end to a stake, however, you will want to use a taut-line hitch.

Form a bight passing the free end of the rope through the grommet or around the pole.

Loop the free end around the standing part of the rope, passing it between the loop and the pole.

Repeat the process, placing the second half hitch beyond the first one, away from the grommet or pole.

Tighten the knot by pushing the half hitches together as you pull on the standing part of the rope.

Move on to Two Half Hitches (Quick Release)
