Campers are well-separated from their neighbors in this secluded pine flatwood forest that's remote enough to escape urban traffic and noises. The Florida National Scenic Trail can be accessed from here by walking 1.5 miles west of the campground. An abandoned mining pit is nearby; most of the water has leached out, and it's only about 10 feet deep. Nonetheless, swimming is prohibited. You'll have to pick up supplies in Inverness, for there's not much in the way of civilization around here.

How To Get There

The park is located in the Citrus Tract of Withlacoochee State Forest, south of Inverness. From the junction of State Road 44 and State Road 581 on the west side of Inverness, drive eight miles south on State Road 581 to the campground entrance on the west side of the highway.

Campsites, facilities: There are 13 sites with water, picnic tables, grills, and fire rings. Flush toilets are available, but there are no showers. A youth camping group is also on site. Children are welcome. Pets are prohibited.

Reservations, fees: No reservations, but there is a single site fee that covers up to five people. Credit cards are not accepted. This campground is open only on weekends (from 10 a.m. on Friday through 2 p.m. on Monday) and holidays.

Contact: Withlacoochee State Forest Recreation Visitors Center, 15003 Broad Street, Brooksville, FL 34601; (352) 754-6896, extension 64.
