Colorado's Hot Springs Heavens
Indian Springs
by Robyn Brewer
Ah . . . camping next to a hot spring! Imagine slipping into your tent under a star-studded sky, peacefully reflecting on a day spent hiking, biking, or perhaps rafting, and then indulging in an extravagant soak in the mineral baths next door. Sadly, however, your relaxation is likely to be spoiled by the roar of diesel engines you could throw a rock from here and hit the freeway. Here's a tip: Try to get a site far from the entrance, close to the little creek that runs by the resort. The rushing water diffuses the road noise a bit and you might even catch a fish or two.
Location: Near Idaho Springs.
Directions: From Interstate 70 at Idaho Springs, take Exit 240 and drive north on Highway 103 to Miner Street. Turn east and drive one-half mile, then turn south on Soda Creek Road and continue a short distance to the campground.
Campsites, facilities: There are thirty-two sites for tents or RVs of any length. Drinking water, picnic tables, and bathrooms with hot showers are provided. Electric hookups, a waste disposal station, a phone, a restaurant, a swimming pool, hot mineral springs, and motel rooms are available. Leashed pets are permitted. Indian Springs sits at an elevation of 7,600 feet.
Reservations: Reservations are not accepted and there is a nightly fee for campsites. The area is open year-round.
