Güasacate is one of Nicaragua's better beaches but remains virtually unvisited and undeveloped. It's a huge stretch of sand with nice waves and several wealthy homes—which may complicate the development and use of the beach for the public. The entrance to Güasacate is located five to eight kilometers down the first left-hand road after crossing a bridge in Las Salinas. Güasacate is home to a surf camp run by a Florida native known throughout Las Salinas only as "J.J." Upon arriving at Güasacate, look for the tents and campers.

The easiest way to get to J.J.'s Surf Camp is from the Ochomogo road to facilitate access to the beaches of Las Salinas and El Astillero. There is at least one bus a day leaving Roberto Huembes in Managua bound for El Astillero via Ochomogo (not Tola). If you don't take a direct bus, it's an easy trip from Rivas, where buses leave about every hour. The road to the beach will take you past several beautiful salt flats, from which the nearby town of Las Salinas gets its name.
