Confluence
A national publication issued on a more or less quarterly basis. Articles and stories in Confluence are lifted directly from the pages of newsletters published by paddling clubs across the country. It was conceived in the attempt to get local information distributed into the paddling community so many more readers can be educated and entertained other than just members of participating clubs. All clubs that participate in the Confluence exchange (there are over 100 canoe, kayak, and sea kayaking clubs!) have given permission for their articles to be copied in this manner and have also been given permission to reprint in their own newsletters any articles that are published in Confluence. Each participating club also receives a free subscription to Confluence.

So why should you, an individual, subscribe to Confluence? While many articles are copied into the pages of club newsletters, many, many more articles are not seen by club members, since the free subscription goes to the newsletter editor of each club. Unless you are active in producing your own club's newsletter, you're missing a lot of good "stuff." My guess is that your newsletter editor feels much as I do, i.e., your newsletter should reflect your members' writings and what they want to read. Or perhaps, you aren't a member of any paddling club and aren't even aware of the existence of this rag!

Confluence is supported by individuals who decide to subscribe. That way the free issues can be sent to each club. This is not a money making proposition; the process might break even, but to be real honest, it would take more effort than I care to expend to keep track of all the time it takes to read over 100 newsletters each month, decide which articles are worthy of reprinting and paste up and print each issue.

If you'd you'd like to receive a "more or less" quarterly issue of your very own, and not have to beg to see the club copy, you'll get to read what you've been missing. You will have to use "snail mail" to start receiving your copy - and pay for it to boot - but some of the most unique articles and info distributed in the paddling community will start arriving in your mailbox - all of it written by those of us who do the paddling.

Simply send your check for $12( for four issues) along with your name, address and a note saying you want to subscribe to: Confluence, 1343 North Portage, Palatine IL 60067.
