Strawberry Reservoir
By Carrie Loranger Gaska

With mountains and high desert country as a backdrop, this premier fishing and recreation area surrounds the Strawberry Reservoir. There are great weekend hiking opportunities along a variety of short and long trails, including Telephone Hollow, a 2.5-mile loop rated easy to moderate. Many other trails are located in the area; choose the ones that suit your style.

Recommended Trip

For a long loop, take the 25-mile trail that follows forest roads 299 and 134 along Clyde Creek up to Strawberry Ridge overlooking the reservoir. Head south along the ridge to Squaw Creek, then follow the trail back to the main road around the reservoir to the starting point.

Camping

Campgrounds are located at four marinas on the reservoir, including Strawberry Bay, Renegade, Aspen Grove, and Soldier Creek. The camping fee is $12 per night. Some sites may be reserved in advance.

Dispersed camping is allowed anywhere in the area, but tents must be 1.5 miles away from the campground. Check in with the forest office at visitor's center before wilderness camping.

Getting There

From Heber City, drive 21 and a half miles southeast on US Highway 40 and turn south onto access road number 131 and in a quarter of a mile you will see the visitors center.

Permits

Camping is $12 per night.
