Driving through the Rockies is the stuff of legend, of Beats on the road and opportunists looking for something a little wild. For starters, Trail Ridge Road in Colorado is the highest through-highway in the U.S. Passing through alpine tundra and displaying its mountain vistas like a shameless prom queen with beauty to spare, the road hits its height at 12,183 feet. The Old West can also be found on the backroads and byways of Colorado. The Beartooth Highway winds through Montana and Wyoming and climbs up high, passing flowery meadows, lakes, canyons, and waterfalls. Yellowstone is a no-brainer, with some of the most famous sights in America (ever heard of Old Faithful? Mammoth Hot Springs?) within yards of the road. Finally, Mesa Falls Scenic Byway in Idaho shows off the Tetons and pleases with sumptuous views of waterfalls, rivers, and gulches.
