SKIING

The Warner Canyon Nordic Trail in Fremont National Forest is a scenic 37-mile loop that winds around the Camas Valley. Kick and glide through white fir, ponderos pine, and lodgepole pine.

Umpqua National Forest's Round-the-Lake Loop is a 10.3-mile combination of four ski trails: Vista Trail, Pizza Connection, Horse N' TealThielsen View Trail, and Westside Trail. The loop circumnavigates Diamond Lake via groomed and backcountry trails, with stunning views of Mount Thielsen, Mount Bailey, and the Crater Lake rim.

For alpine action, visit the Mount Ashland Ski Area in Oregon's Siskyou Mountains. Just eight miles off of Interstate 5 and 18 miles from Ashland, the resort enjoys an annual snowfall of 300-plus inches, lots of sun, and 23 runs.

Since Crater Lake National Park's Rim Drive is closed to cars in winter, cross-country skiers have the beautiful views all to themselves. An average of 529 inches of snow falls on Crater Lake each year. A complete circuit of the lake's ungroomed trail will take two to three days—longer in stormy weather—so come prepared to camp. Bring your own skis, as rental equipment is not available inside the park.

Located at the foot of Mount McLoughlin, Fourmile Lake in Winema National Forest is a scenic six-mile ski from Oregon Route 140. Enjoy a great view of McLoughlin (9,495 feet) and the lake blanketed by snow (the area receives 10-15 feet each winter).
