Don't feel up to tackling the Slickrock Bike Trail? Little ones and biking newbies will enjoy the Monitor and Merrimac Trail, located just 15 miles northwest of Moab off U.S. 191. This easy, 13.2-mile loop offers numerous photo opportunities, including Determination Towers and the Monitor and Merrimac buttes.

A visit to Arches National Park isn't complete without seeing Delicate Arch, one of America's most photographed natural features. Avoid the crowds and take the Delicate Arch Viewpoint trail. This half-mile hike takes you to the rim of a steep canyon for a view of the 45-foot-high, 33-foot-wide arch.

The Gemini Bridges Trail (13.5 miles one-way) makes for a nice downhill cruise, with just one real climb near the end of the ride. Pedal on dirt, slickrock and wash bottom through some scenic forest and red-rock areas. Stop for views of the Behind the Rocks area, Arches, and Gemini Bridges. At trail's end, shuttle back to the trailhead (located off U.S. 313) or ride eight miles downhill along U.S. 191 back to Moab.

Take a gentle float down one of the least-traveled sections of the Colorado River. The 16 miles between Cisco Landing and the Dewey Bridge offers a calm canoe trip for beginner and intermediate paddlers.

Surprise Canyon in Capitol Reef National Park is an easy out-and-back hike into a deep canyon, where the towering walls are made up of the park's various sandstone formations: Entrada, Carmel, Navajo, Kayneta, and Wingate. The trail is two miles round-trip, perfect for families with small children. Take plenty of water and keep an eye on the weather to avoid flash floods.
