PADDLING

Though it offers much more than great paddling, Colorado's first National Wild and Scenic River, the Cache La Poudre, serves up the frothy stuff in spades. Beginning high up in Rocky Mountain National Park, the river drops 7,000 feet on its way to the confluence with the South Platte River.

Brown's Canyon is a favorite Class III stretch on Colorado's Arkansas River. This 10-mile kayaking and rafting run begins in Nathrop and is one of the most popular routes in the area.

Paddle around Lake Ganby in Arapahoe National Forest. This large lake in the southwestern corner of Rocky Mountain National Park allows for convenient access to the national park, the national forest, and Indian Peaks Wilderness.

Challenge your skills in the Pine Creek Rapids. This Class V section of the Arakansas River starts just below Granite and pulls out all the stops.

Canoe the picturesque Dillon Reservoir. High peaks, calm waters, and crisp mountain air characterize this body of water nestled between Dillon, Frisco, and Silverthorne.
