Campbell Lake

A 125-acre lake within several hundred yards ofthe Gulf of Mexico. Approximately four miles west of Santa Rosa County, off U. S. Hwy 98. Accessible only by sand roads. Produces fair bream fishing in the spring and summer. The best baits are earthworms and crickets. Some bass are caught, primarily in the spring on artificial worms and live shiners.

Choctawhatchee River

Flows 96 miles from Alabama line to Choctawhatchee Bay. Popular access points are Caryville, Ebro and Black Creek south of Freeport. Offers alligator gar fishing in season with specimens weighing up to 200 pounds. The lower river is more productive for the fisherman. Nice strings of bluegill and shellcracker are caught in the spring and summer. Although crickets and earthworms are good panfish baits, fly fishing is productive during certain periods. Largemouth bass are caught best in the spring and summer on crankbaits and artificial worms. Bass can be caught around the treetops and stick-ups in the river. Sunshine bass fishing is spotty in the spring and fall. The best baits are live shad and shad-like lures fished on the downstream end of the various sandbars.

Juniper Lake

A 670-acre Commission managed impoundment three miles north of DeFuniak Springs, west of SR 83. This impoundment has a great deal of flooded timber and produces some excellent bass fishing. A number of trophy bass are taken each year. Plastic worms are the best bait due to underwater trees and snags, but live shiners are also productive. The spring and summer months are a good time to catch bluegills with crickets and wigglers the most desired baits.
