Lake Iamonia

5,757 acres, 95% covered by vegetation. Reached from U. S. Hwy 319 and SR 12, 12 miles north of Tallahassee. Noted for large panfish. Bluegills and fliers can be caught in the spring and early summer on oakworms, earthworms and crickets. Pickerel are taken in the spring using broken-back minnows and spinner baits. Bass fishing is only fair.

Lake Jackson

4,004 acres near Tallahassee on U. S. Hwy 27. Acknowledged widely as one of Florida's top bass fishing lakes, it historically has produced large bass throughout the year. Best time to bass fish is in the spring using live shiners. Artificial worms are also effective. All black bass between 13 and 17 inches must be immediately released unharmed. The lake has good bluegill and shellcracker fishing in the spring. Best baits to use are grass shrimp and earthworms. Some nice strings of speckled perch are caught in the late winter months while drift fishing with live minnows.

Please note: Lake Jackson has recently drained due to a sinkhole. Lake Jackson will not available for fishing until the sinkhole closes up.

Upper Ochlocknee River

From Florida Georgia line to Lake Talquin. Reached over U.S. Hwy 90, U.S. Hwy 27 and SR 12. Some upper stretches difficult for boat travel due to logs and brush jams during low water. Only system in northwest Florida with Suwannee bass. Bluegill and shellcracker fishing is excellent in the spring and summer months on crickets, redworms and wigglers. Bass may be caught in the spring and summer on crankbaits and artificial worms. Lures should be fished around the many logs and treetops in the river for best results.
