Chipola River

Home of the rare coosa bass. Reached at Marianna over U.S. Hwy. 90, SR 20 at Clarksville, and SR 274 west of Altha. Very scenic spring-fed, cold water river with fast water shoals. Provides excellent bream fishing in the spring depending on water level. Bream, including redbreast and bluegill, are taken on beetle spins and redworms. Crickets are good also. Some bass. are taken in the spring on plastic worms.

Middle Apalachicola River (Blountstown area)

Tributaries include Old River, Outside Lakes, Equaloxic Creek, Larkin Slough, River Styx, Kennedy Creek, and numerous other sloughs and streams. Reached over SR 20 at Blountstown.

Bluegill and shellcracker fishing is excellent in the spring around river treetops and in sloughs off the river. Best baits are crickets, earthworms, catalpa worms and oak worms. Superb bass fishing in the spring and summer. Anglers should use plastic worms and crankbaits. Sunshine bass can be caught in the spring and fall by fishing off sandbars. Best baits are jigs, spoons and live shad. Speckled perch can be caught from January through March around submerged treetops using live minnows.
