Getting there: By car, plane or bus. The airport is four miles from Yulara. The shuttle bus will take you to any of the accommodation sites for $7. Greyhound Pioneer buses offer regular service from Alice Springs and Adelaide. With an Aussiepass, the cheapest way to get to the Rock is buying a two-day package. Park entry fees and accommodation are not included.

Tours: Visit GORP Travel-Australia for tours to Ayers Rock. A typical tour may offer three- and five-day packages to Uluru starting around AUD $320.

Accommodations: There are a wide range of lodging possibilities. If you have camping gear, the Ayers Rock Campground is reasonably priced and boasts a swimming pool. The Outback Pioneer Lodge has a bunk-bed equipped cabins with shared bathrooms for $18 the first night and $10 each night thereafter.

Food: A grocery store in town and the campground kiosk sell food supplies. The shopping center has reasonable take-away food. The Lodges and Hotels have a range of dining facilities.

Climbing the Rock: The climb will be closed between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. when the temperatures become unbearable, and when it rains.

If you can afford it, stay longer and enjoy this unique part of Australia.
