More continent than country, India offers such a huge diversity of terrains that it can be almost anything you make it. The landscape cascades from the high, snow-capped Himalayan peaks of the far north to the steamy, tropical, palm-lined beaches of south. And as the scenery changes so do the people and cultures, from the light-skinned Muslims of the north to the jet-black Hindus in the deep south.
In a country with such diversity, the possibilities for the adventure traveler, of course, are equally varied. Take camel rides in the desert or go whitewater rafting on Class V rapids in the Himalayas. But it's not all go, go, goyou'll also find plenty to stimulate the mind and soothe the soul, such as a sojourn on an ashram or a glide down the holy Ganges River.
The problem, though, is that adventure travel as we know it is just catching on; to many Indians, mountain biking and whitewater rafting are still in developing stages. In addition, facilities are often very basic. In other words, bring your improvisation and flexibility!
One trip to India is never enoughexperienced travelers find themselves returning time and again. India gets into your blood and under your skin, and once that happens, you're hooked! But don't take our word for itcheck it out for yourself and have the time of your life!
