Steven Torres - Writer, Researcher, Cougar Expert
GORP Guest from February 20 to March 13, 1998

Steven Torres
Steven Torres
Steven Torres has been studying wildlife in the California and Sonoran Desert of Arizona since 1980. He holds master's degrees in desert ecology and biostatistics from the University of Arizona and the University of California at Los Angeles, respectively. Since 1992 Steven has coordinated statewide research and management of both the mountain lion and bighorn sheep programs for the California Department of Fish and Game. His position provides exposure to many different public attitudes toward mountain lions, which he describes as"one of the most polarizing issues in wildlife management." His current mountain lion research focuses on habitat suitability and understanding the factors influencing mountain lion-human conflicts.

Steven enjoys most forms of outdoor adventuring, but his favorites include looking for bighorn sheep, birdwatching, hunting, and canoeing and camping with his daughters Anna and Emily.

Steven was a GORP guest while we featured an excerpt from Mountain Lion Alert on our home page. Now that he's responded to all your questions, see what he had to say.
