Primus Alpine Micro
By Keith Morton, GORP Gear Expert

Primus Alpine Micro
Price: $43.50 ($50 with lighter)
Weight: 4.1 ounces
Canister weight and cost: 225g, $4.50

Primus Alpine Micro

The flame looks as though it will produce a very concentrated hot spot on the bottom of the pot, but actually it doesn't seem to do so in practice.

Everyone commented that the pot supports feel a bit wobbly, although they are secure enough and do in fact stay in place. The canister is slightly smaller in diameter than the others, further contributing to a feeling that the stove is less stable.

The round knob made it easy to control the burner output. This was one of the lighter and more compact stoves, and was reasonably quiet.

High points: Light and compact, easy to control.

Low points: Wobbly feel to the pot supports is disconcerting but not an actual problem.

Testers' conclusions: Lower cost alternative to the Giga at marginally greater weight, but some felt the wobbliness was bothersome.
