Ex Officio Monsoon Raingear
By Dan A. Nelson
 Monsoon Jacket |
|
Ex Officio built its reputation on producing shirts, shorts, pants, and other technical clothing with flair, but now the company has expanded its designs to cover everything from base layer to outerwear. The Monsoon Jacket and Pants highlight this expansion effort.
Constructed from a two-layer fabric (ripstop nylon backed by a proprietary, waterproof breathable fabric), the Monsoon is a highly functional yet technical jacket that packs into a tiny fanny pack when the deluge subsides. It sports a full hood that rolls down and neatly out of the way into the zippered collar, pit-zips for good ventilation, drawcords at the waist and hip to adjust the fit, and Velcro-closed elastic cuffs to keep rain from dribbling down your arms. The jacket is cut long for excellent rain protection when worn alone, but, when the skies really open up, slip on the Monsoon Pants for head-to-toe protection.
The pants feature a long cuff zipper to make taking them off (or pulling them on) easy without having to remove your boots. The lightweight, compact Monsoon raingear is perfect for hikers and other ounce-counters for whom pack space is at a premium.
Price: $258 jacket, $122 pants
