GORP's Trailside Cookbook
Some More S'mores
By Food Expert, Dorcas Miller
Toasting marshmallows over a hissing blue flame just isn't the
same as roasting them in a dancing fire. But if you want the rich
taste of chocolate overlaid with the crunch of graham crackers
and nuts (and are willing to forego the pyrotechnics), try this
recipe. Each serving has 225 calories.
Some More S'mores
This recipe makes 2 servings of 1/2 cup each
At home, crumble:
1 1/2 graham crackers (makes 1/2 cup)
Combine with:
1/4 cup chocolate chips
1/4 cup chopped, toasted walnuts
On trail, place ingredients in a pot and warm over a low flame,
stirring constantly. Do not let the chocolate get hot enough to
bubble because it will scorch instantly.
As an alternative, make a double boiler by putting the ingredients in a small pot, then placing the small pot in a larger pot with an inch or two of water. The chocolate will take longer to melt, but it won't burn.
This recipe is from my book, Backcountry Cooking.
