Utah Ski Roundup
Snowbasin
By Ashley Patterson

Snowbasin has been selected as the downhill and Super G venue for the Winter Olympic Games in 2002 and the choice makes good sense. With a 2,400 vertical foot drop, there is plenty of pitch to accumulate speed. Since it is 52 miles from Salt Lake City, the resort tends to be a bit less crowded than the seven resorts within 30 miles, although with its expansion and Olympic site designation, it is no longer Utah's best kept secret.
Since its Olympic selection, Snowbasin has added two gondolas and a quad, which has nearly doubled its skiable acreage. It has also added snowmaking to cover nearly 20 percent of the resort.
Location: Snowbasin is located in the Wasatch-Cache National Forest. The addition of Highway 167 (Trapper's Loop) to the state highway system opens a new access route to Snowbasin. From the south and the Salt Lake City International Airport take I-15 North, exit to I-84 east to Mt. Green/ Huntsville (#92) and follow the signs to Highway 167. From the north, Snowbasin is 17 miles east of Ogden via 12th Street exit off of I-15, east through Ogden Canyon to State Road 226. From Park City, take I-80 north to I-84 at Echo Junction. Continue west on I-84 to Mt. Green/Huntsville (#96) and follow the signs to Highway 167.
