Most people float the Snake in Grand Teton National Park. Be aware, this is not a river on which you can fall asleep. A tangle of channels and constantly shifting logjams present difficulties found on few whitewater rivers. River flow varies greatly throughout the summer. Boulders and bottom irregularities cause standing waves up to three feet high.

Yeah, sounds like fun. And the paddler is rewarded with the breathtaking backdrop of the Grand Tetons, the range that emblematize the Rocky Mountains. And this is one of the world's great wildlife areas. The Snake flows through many of the major habitats of the park. Be on the lookout for elk, osprey, bears, and many, many other surprises.
