Can I Fly with Fuel?

Jacey's Question:
My husband and I are going to southern Utah to backpack through the national parks there. Our stove uses"Camping Gaz", and we have heard that we cannot bring in on the plane with us (we live in Boston). How do people usually transport their cooking fuel?

Karen is a hiker's hiker. She has finished the Appalachian, Pacific Crest and Continental Divide Trails — making her one of the few who've completed hiking's"triple crown."

You cannot bring stove fuel on a plane. You can send Camping Gaz canisters through UPS if you specify ground shipment ONLY. You would need to find an address that would receive and hold your package. One choice: If you'll be spending your first night in a hotel, you could have the canister shipped there. Also, shops in national parks usually sell common stove fuel, including Camping Gaz. You could call the park before you go, ask for the number of the concessionaire who runs the store, and double-check that they sell the fuel there.
