Ask the Fishing Expert Where to fish in Lake Tahoe?
Ryan's Question:
Where in Lake Tahoe is there good fishing? Any kind of water is OK.
Ryan
Mark's Answer:
Dear Ryan
What time of year will you be going to Lake Tahoe? If you go in late
spring through the fall, you can fish nice streams and lakes in any direction from Tahoe. Driving times can range from minutes to a couple of hours. Most anglers are surprised to find better-than-average fishing in the
state of Nevada. You can also fish in California too (the valley streams and
in the high country of the Sierra Nevada). Some of the top Nevada angling
spots are the Truckee River, which is near (and runs through) Reno; Pyramid
Lake (an eerie-looking lake that holds big fish); East Walker River; Carson
River, and the North Fork of the Humboldt River. There are numerous other
productive rivers and lakes (and a surprising number of small- to medium-sized
streams with good trout fishing). I don't know of a flyshop in Tahoe, though
there very well might be, but here are three flyshops in Reno/Sparks you can
get more info from:
The Gilly (702) 358-6113
Reno Fly Shop (702) 827-0600
Mark Fore and Strike (702) 322-9559
Good luck,
Mark D. Williams
