Unaweep/Tabegauche Scenic and Historic Byway
Practicalities

The entire Byway is on paved road and can be traveled by all automobiles and recreational vehicles. Drivers should use caution and common sense when attempting to travel any of the unpaved roads off of the Byway. Side roads can become extremely soft and slippery during wet periods and are not recommended for 2-wheel drive vehicles at these times.

Allow at least 5 hours driving time, not including stops, to travel the entire route. Stop and enjoy the scenery and the interpretive signs which provide additional information on the history, geology and wildlife of the area. If you would like to spend a day or two exploring the area, consider spending the night in one of the hotels in Nucla, Naturita, Norwood or Gateway, or camping on BLM lands or at the KOA campground in Redvale.

Meals, gas and supplies are available in Norwood and Naturita 7 days a week.
